One extended cruise around Australia has been cancelled following the death of an senior female passenger who was left behind by the ship on a distant island.

The elderly woman had been hiking on the remote island with shipmates from the vessel, but separated from the party for a rest. The liner sailed away leaving her and went back several hours later after the ship staff became aware the passenger was missing.

A major search operation found her remains the subsequent day.

Investigative bodies are examining the event, together with law enforcement and the state coroner.

The CEO of the shipping company announced that guests and personnel on the Coral Adventurer were notified that the rest of the journey had been terminated due to the "unfortunate death and previous engine troubles".

Through an announcement, he mentioned that travelers would be issued a total repayment, and said the operator was working "to arrange the homeward trips of the travelers via chartered flights".

Regulatory bodies also published an updated announcement, and said they had "provided a order to the Captain" prohibiting any additional guests from entering the vessel.

The official said that they would visit the vessel in the port city upon its arrival.

The ship initially left the Australian port on the 24th of October, and was only 48 hours into the journey at the point of the 80-year-old's demise. The tropical location was the opening port on the voyage.

Passengers on the ship - who typically pay substantial amounts of dollars to join the cruise - were ferried there for a daily excursion with the possibility of trekking or underwater exploration.

Family Reaction

The child of the victim said that her relatives was "stunned and saddened that the ship left Lizard Island after an organised excursion without my mum".

Through her comments, she characterized her mum as an "active octogenarian" who was a member of a walking organization.

"From the little facts we have been told, it seems that there was a lapse of responsibility and common sense," she said.

She further stated that she hoped the inquiry would be able to pinpoint what "the operator should have undertaken that might have protected Mother's existence".

"According to reports from the investigators that it was a extremely warm day, and she fell ill on the mountain ascent," she stated.

"They requested her to return, unescorted. Then the boat departed, reportedly without performing a headcount.

"During some point in that sequence, or not long after, mother passed away, alone."

Company Reaction

Through an announcement, the Head verified that the company was "working closely with authorities to aid their inquiry".

He mentioned that the company was "deeply sorry that this has occurred" and had provided its total backing to the relatives.
