Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's expected for concerns to be asked about his position after a further convincing loss against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their ninth loss in 12 matches, marking the club's worst streak after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough night at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I've received plenty of backing from the top,” Slot commented.
“It would be nice to turn it around and get a victory obviously but if you are working as a coach and not doing well then it's typical that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my role. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we turned it around.”
Talks with Club Management
When asked to elaborate on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach said:
“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me all the time of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He mentioned, “Through standard conversations we have I sense the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them after this match so far so we'll see.”
Recurring Issues and Player Response
The manager highlighted known shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, namely poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones stated.
“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I’m past being angry inside. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the words.”
He added, “It’s hard because I play for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side going through a period of this nature with performances like these.”
Jones finished, “But we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And as long as it is removed, we will always fight.”
“Our aim is to get this team back to where it needs to be, show everyone again what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the greatest side in the world.”
“However currently, things are bad and it needs to change.”
