Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he has been in contact with cornerback Kris Boyd and feels certain the athlete will recover well after being shot in central New York early Sunday morning.

Glenn described that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “positive” during a recent discussion.

“That’s what eases my mind, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His family, they are holding up and he will walk away from this just fine.”

Glenn was unsure when Boyd would leave the medical facility, where he has been listed as critical but stable.

“Not certain at the moment,” the coach said. “However, I can share, just talking to him, he felt really upbeat. Furthermore, that reassures me, because of his outlook and his words reflect that optimism.”

NYPD shared security footage Monday of a suspect in the shooting of Boyd. A motive for the shooting is still being looked into and police mentioned it’s not clear if Boyd was singled out. No one else was hurt were reported.

The attack took place around 2 a.m. on Sunday in the area between MSG and the iconic square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was taken to Bellevue Hospital after suffering a wound to the stomach, as reported. The shooter fled the scene.

Glenn shared Boyd has been in his thoughts “constantly” since he heard about the shooting. The coach said that Boyd and his wife are new parents to a child.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he recently became a father,” Glenn remarked. “And I’m thinking about his wife, worrying about his newborn and my priority is his well-being. That was my main concern.

“There’s a process to this, that I won’t detail, but It is reassuring that he will recover excellently.”

Boyd did not participate in the present campaign, after joining the team, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on mid-August with an injury to his shoulder that involved surgical repair.

He joined the Jets as a new signing in March and was anticipated to become a significant contributor of the team’s updated special teams under Glenn and ST coordinator the special teams coach. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during a practice session on August 2 and had to be helped off.

Boyd has remained around the team during the entire campaign while recovering from the shoulder injury.

“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn said. “Certainly, he is a regular at our matches. He is completely involved. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”

Boyd, a Texas native, spent his initial four years with the Vikings after getting drafted in the seventh round by the Vikings out of UT in the 2019 draft. He signed with the Arizona Cardinals in 2023 and later was with the Texans subsequently. Boyd signed a one-year contract valued at $1.6 million with the Jets in the spring.
