The former personal attorney for Donald Trump has stepped down as New Jersey's top federal prosecutor. This follows a legal ruling that challenged her right to occupy the role.
Attorney General's Statement
US Attorney General, Pam Bondi, confirmed the prosecutor's departure on Monday. Bondi stated that the judicial decision made it unworkable for the official to lead the department effectively.
"Let no one confuse adherence to the ruling as defeat," she declared. "My fight will now stretch across the nation."
Judicial Challenge
Her resignation follows closely on a federal appellate panel found that she had been unlawfully serving as US attorney. This judgment is could influence many criminal cases in the state.
The court said that a interim role that skirted confirmation by the US Senate violated the Federal Vacancies Reform Act.
Ongoing Legal Battle
The Attorney General added that she will remain at the justice department as a high-level advisor. They intend to pursue additional appeals of the court's action, aiming for a reversal.
Writing online, the Attorney General wrote that the judiciary "cannot be permitted to countermand the President's choice of attorneys responsible for carrying out the primary duty of the administration of prosecuting crime."

Bondi commended Habba's record and said that while she was in charge, the state capital of Newark saw a 20% reduction in criminal activity. She also stated that the southern city of Camden experienced its first summer in half a century with no murders.
Legal Career
Habba, originally became part of Donald Trump's lawyers in 2021. Subsequently, she defended the former president in his hush-money trial in the previous year, when he was conviction on multiple felony counts of document fraud.
Earlier, her appointment to the federal prosecutor position, the former president had stated he was appointing her as his senior adviser during his second administration, labeling the lawyer as deeply loyal and a dedicated fighter for justice.
