Battlefield 6's Relaxed Playlist Sparks Intense Discussions Regarding AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a new playlist called Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but features a few key adjustments:
- Each team has only eight human participants, with the rest made up of 32 bots.
- Activities done by human gamers grant full XP, while bot actions offer reduced XP.
- Only two locations can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
- Elements like Player tags, accolades, and career stat updates are disabled.
So essentially, the playlist lives up to its title: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume there's nothing wrong, since it provides additional choices for gamers seeking alternative ways to enjoy the game. However, gaming history has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. In other words, a lot of Battlefield 6 fans are upset.
Player Reactions: From Fury to Praise
"People want human opponents. Don't repeat the mistakes of your rivals," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking concept," says another. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," and someone else details all the issues they believe to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We don't need this bot mode."
However, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "The community doesn't understand that there are players who have lives and don't play this title all the time. Let them find a middle ground," states another. A response via social media explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," and someone else applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Valid Concerns and Community Feedback
Despite the support, there are valid points to complain about the new mode. A few folks have pointed out that it could increase queue times more extended for other modes because of the sheer number of options in the game already. Similarly, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, despite it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, a major grievances is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that got canned when they tried to remove XP farming from the mode. So this new playlist feels like the player base compromising in the middle, as per forum feedback. Another describes this mode as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I had so much fun in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?
If Battlefield Studios has proven anything to date with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and responding to feedback. Tasks that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics indicates this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
